Written Exam

Ergometrics’ CONNECT Customer Service Exam: Customer service representatives are the front line in defining an organization’s public image and delivering outstanding service. Customer service representatives must be courteous and professional while demonstrating a wide range of critical thinking and information-gathering skills. Filmed in high definition, Ergometrics’ CONNECT is a highly realistic professional video-based job simulation test focusing on the typical challenges that modern customer service representatives face. CONNECT pre-employment test for customer service representatives is a fully validated test that is easy to administer and is designed to measure customer service orientation, listening and communication skills, information processing, and problem-solving. CONNECT shows typical phone and in-person scenarios modern customer service representatives face on the job. After being shown a scenario, applicants are asked to make a judgment about how to respond. The CONNECT Video Test includes questions presented as simulations that require multiple tasking skills, including interpreting customer account information while communicating effectively with customers. The CONNECT Video Test is a highly accurate work simulation test measuring a broad cross-section of critical behaviors.

Detention Specialist:
Corrections- REACT
Total Test Time: Approximately 2 hours
Administered through the National Testing Network (NTN)

Video Human Relations Test:
The Human Relations Test focuses on using good judgment in the supervision of inmates, public relations,
and teamwork. Candidates do not have to have the experience to do well. Candidates watch a video
scenario and then choose the best course of action in a multiple-choice format. The test items play
without stopping. Candidates have 10 seconds to answer each question. All information that may be
needed to answer a question is provided in the test. REACT is not designed to be a test of policy or
technical components and candidates are asked to only know what is stated during the video.

Reading Test:
This test is designed specifically for correctional officers, a job requiring ongoing study of difficult and
technical materials. This test is based on typical training materials. Some words are left blank.
Candidates are required to choose a word that best fits in the blank.

Count Test:
This is a counting test based on the movement of inmates within the correctional facility. The test items
in the video play without stopping. Candidates have 10 seconds to answer each question.

Incident Observation and Report Writing Test:
This test shows situations on video and asks the applicant to write a brief report, which is evaluated on
content, organization, and basic writing skills.

Practice Test:

at www.reacttest.com. This site allows you to interactively review seven example video test items with a
discussion of the possible answer choices.

Must score at least 70% on counting and video tests and 75% on the reading test to be invited to Oral Board
Interview. Results are forwarded directly to the Adams County Sheriff’s Office.

Academy Recruit, Entry Level Deputy, and Lateral Deputy
Law Enforcement- Frontline
Total Test Time: Approximately 2 hours
Administered through the National Testing Network (NTN))


FrontLine Video-Based Human Relations Test:
FrontLine focuses on using good judgment in enforcement, public relations, and teamwork. Candidates
do not have to have the experience to do well. Candidates watch a video segment and then choose
the BEST course of action in a multiple-choice format. This test is presented on computer or video and
the items play without stopping. Candidates have 10 seconds to answer each question.

All information that may be needed to answer a question is provided in the test. Frontline is not
designed to be a test of policy or technical components and candidates are asked to only know what is
stated during the video.

FrontLine Reading Test:
FrontLine Reading Test is designed specifically for law enforcement officers, a job requiring ongoing
study of difficult and technical materials. This test is based on typical training materials. Certain words
are left blank. Candidates are required to choose a word that best fits in the blank. They are given 15
minutes to complete this test.

FrontLine Incident Observation and Report Writing Test:
Report writing is an important part of a law enforcement officer’s job. For this test candidates view a
brief incident presented on video. They are given blank pieces of paper for notes and a draft, then asked
to write a report on the answer sheet in the space provided. They are shown an example scenario and a
sample of an excellent written report. After viewing the video twice, they are given 10 minutes to
complete the report.

FrontLine Practice Test:

website at www.frontlinetest.com. This site allows you to interactively review seven example video test
items, with a discussion of the possible answer choices. The site also has a 21-item practice reading test.

Must score at least 70% on reading/writing and video to be accepted for an Oral Board Interview
Results are forwarded directly to the Adams County Sheriff’s Office

Physical Ability Course (PAC)

  • Timed 9-obstacle course
  • Must complete in 2 minutes or less to pass
  • Pass/Fail test, mandatory participation

Physical Fitness Test Battery

(Academy Recruit, Entry Level Deputy, Lateral Deputy)

  • Includes cadence push-ups, sit-ups, a 1.5-mile run, and a flexibility test
  • Mandatory participation, not pass/fail
  • Candidates can earn up to 40 points for ranking purposes

Oral Board Interview

  • All Positions
  • Additional points can be earned for education and military service (Recruit & Deputy positions)
  • 30-minute interview process
  • Must score at least 70% to proceed

Frequently asked Questions

  • Scheduling the written exam is up to you for your convenience. The Adams County Sheriff’s Office typically holds Cadet / Lateral Deputy oral board interviews twice a month, and all other position oral board interviews once monthly. If an applicant proceeds past the oral board interview step, you are requested to provide a detailed packet to begin the background investigation process. If all of the requested documents and details are adequately provided, background investigations will take between 45 and 60 business days.
  • Yes. Lateral Officers with patrol experience are allowed to start on patrol at the discretion of the Sheriff. Lateral Officers without patrol experience will be asked to first complete the Jail FTO process and request a transfer after training is completed successfully.
  • No. Cadets hired by the Adams County Sheriff’s Office are sponsored by the agency. Not only that, the Adams County Sheriff’s Office pays Adams County Cadets while they complete the P.O.S.T. certification courses.
  • Yes. We ask cadets being sponsored to attend the FLATROCK Regional Training Center academy to commit 2 year to the Adams County Sheriff’s Office. The 2 year contract includes the 22 week academy.
  • Adams County is located right in the heart of the Denver Metro area. Employees live in all of the surrounding areas to include Douglas County, Jefferson County, Boulder County, Weld County, Broomfield County, Morgan County, Elbert Count, Larimer County and El Paso County. It is completely up to you where you want to live. There is no minimum distance employees are required to live for employment.
  • We require all trainees to complete the Jail FTO(Field Training) program. The Jail FTO program typically takes 3 to 4 months to complete. After successfully completing the Jail FTO program you are eligible to put in a transfer request to Patrol. Agency Lateral Deputies without patrol experience will also be asked to complete the Jail FTO program before advancing to the Patrol Division.
  • No. We have had many senior cadets successfully complete the academy.
