- The academy is 22 weeks long and runs twice a year (January-June and July-December)
- No. The general academy schedule is Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm, with a few minor exceptions
FLATROCK Regional Training Facility requires intermediate physical fitness, and encourages cadets to be in peak physical condition to avoid injury.
- No. We have had many senior recruits successfully complete the academy.
- No. Recruits hired by the Adams County Sheriff’s Office are sponsored by the agency. Not only that, the Adams County Sheriff’s Office pays Adams County Recruits while they complete the P.O.S.T. certification courses.
- Yes. We ask recruits being sponsored by the Adams County Sheriff’s Office to attend the FLATROCK Regional Training Center academy to commit 2-year to the Adams County Sheriff’s Office. The 2-year contract includes the 22 week academy.
- Recruits are often granted the ability to test for a patrol position right out of the academy depending on overall staffing of each division with an academy recommendation based on performance and leadership in academy. If you are asked to work at the jail to start, you will be eligible to test for patrol during the next selection process. Lateral Deputies are often given the chance to start on patrol with previous law enforcement patrol experience if staffing allows. Each lateral deputy is assigned to a division at the discretion of the Sheriff. Entry level lateral deputies who just graduated an academy are typically asked to start in the Jail division to get familiar with the agency.

- Yes. Please email [email protected] to request a tour of any of our Adams County Sheriff’s Office Facilities. Citizens requesting a tour will be subject to a modified background check.
- Some assignments are career advancements include a take home car. General patrol deputies are not assigned take home cars at this time.
- Yes. Lateral Officers with patrol experience are allowed to start on patrol at the discretion of the Sheriff. Lateral Officers without patrol experience will be asked to first complete the Jail FTO (Field Training) process and request a transfer after training is completed successfully.
- No. Patrol operates on an ‘every 4 months’ rotating schedule. Patrol has three shifts: days, swings, and nights. The Jail Division operates on an ‘every 3 months’ rotating schedule, rotating from days to nights. A-Platoon workdays are Sunday-Tuesday and B-Platoon workdays are Thursday-Saturday with Wednesdays being common days, in-service training days, or days off for the jail. Patrol works 10-hour shifts, and the jail works 12-hour shifts.
- All personnel are expected to maintain a clean and professional image. Hairstyles must be kept professional in appearance and may not be dyed unnatural colorings such as but not limited to blue, green, orange, or ping. Facial hair (sideburns, mustaches, and beards) are permissible if it does not detract from a professional appearance. Piercings including but not limited to plugs, gauges, tongue barbell, etc. are prohibited. Body alteration to any area of the body that is visible and is such a deviation from the normal anatomical features that is not medically required is prohibited. Visible tattoos are allowed so long as they are not offensive, provocative, gang related, or distasteful. Tattoos or body are on the face scalp, or ears are not allowed and must be covered. Permanent eyebrow tattoos are permitted.
- For recruits and lateral Deputies, the Adams County Sheriff’s Office provides nearly all of the required equipment to begin your career in law enforcement. Purchases required by recruits and new deputies include; sidearm, undershirts and boots.
- Scheduling the written exam is up to you for your convenience. The Adams County Sheriff’s Office typically holds Recruit / Lateral Deputy oral board interviews twice a month, and all other position oral board interviews once monthly. If an applicant proceeds past the oral board interview step, you are requested to provide a detailed packet to begin the background investigation process. If all of the requested documents and details are adequately provided, background investigations will take between 45 and 60 business days.
- We allow individuals who live 100 miles or further, to complete a virtual interview for any position.

- The Frontline Exam offered by the National Testing Network takes between 1-2 hours. Practice tests can be purchased from the testing company at the National Testing Network’s website.

- At this time, The Adams County Sheriff’s Office does not offer a signing bonus
- Adams County is located right in the heart of the Denver Metro area. Employees live in all of the surrounding areas to include Douglas County, Jefferson County, Boulder County, Weld County, Broomfield County, Morgan County, Elbert Count, Larimer County and El Paso County. It is completely up to you where you want to live. There is no minimum distance employees are required to live for employment
